China’s CATL to cut its EV battery costs by up to 50% this year, heralding a price war

The battery is the main EV cost, but no-1 CATL plans to cut costs by 50% because of oversupply, starting a price war with no-2 BYD. CATL/ BYD batteries already use lithium iron phosphate cathodes instead of expensive cobalt. Energy density could also increase from 200 to 700 Wh/kg, while 1,200-km fireproof solid-state batteries are in the works.
