U.S. producer Enviva will annually ship over 200,000 tonnes of wood pellets from 2020 to 2024 as fuel for 628 biomass installations in the Netherlands, receiving €11.4bn in E.U. subsidies. EASAC stated subsidising biomass power plants is a waste because it is unsustainable, produces little energy, increases deforestation, and releases more CO2 than coal or gas.
